What VET teachers say about the Methodology
I find it a very innovative way of gamifying lessons. I will use the methodology and transfer it to the teachers at my school
I found the materials very innovative, offering a way to gamify training. I will pass them on to all the teachers at my school
I especially like that the methodology does not focus on learning to play chess, but uses it as a tool to develop skills such as problem solving, strategic thinking and the ability to adapt to new situations
Chess helps learners understand that a wrong decision is not a failure but an opportunity to reflect, change strategy and look for new solutions
It develops transversal competences in an accessible way that can be adapted to different learner profiles. It also offers teachers new possibilities to work on skills that are not always explicitly addressed in teaching programmes
Lateral thinking, creativity, planning and problem solving are skills that can be developed from any subject and are essential for learners professional future
Innovative skills that are exceptionally well presented, engaging and straightforwardly usable. Great resource
It surprised me a lot and I will use it in my daily lessons; it is very innovative.
What surprised me most is how chess can be used to develop lateral thinking and creativity. I think it is a very interesting tool for working on problem solving, and one I can incorporate into my lessons
The methodology is very interesting as it develops lateral thinking and problem solving through the combined use of chess and artificial intelligence, encouraging learners to explore different alternatives and find creative solutions to complex situations
The methodology shows new ways of integrating artificial intelligence into the classroom and invites reflection on how to use it effectively so that learners acquire transversal and digital competences
It allows learners to learn from their mistakes and understand that the same problem can have different solutions
I particularly highlight challenge-based learning, as it allows learners to face concrete situations, analyse different alternatives and develop their own strategies to find solutions.
The methodology contributes to developing learners' autonomy, as it allows them to experiment, make decisions and reflect on the consequences of their actions, using artificial intelligence as a support tool
The transversal skills activities provide a useful structure for teamwork and communication in VET classes
The progression from chess logic to working task is engaging and can be adapted well to programming and web-design lessons
Chess data sets offer a deep context for database design, data queries and web-based specification of results
The methodology is logically structured and meets expectations in giving support for technical communication and guided classroom work
The methodology connects software programming, networked systems and computer architecture through practical problem-solving tasks
Class based tasks and activities naturally guide students into algorithms and logic exercises making abstract theory much easier to demonstrate
The challenge-based approach is suitable for learning robotics and coding projects and encourages testing, interaction and teamwork
The Methodology creates good opportunities to discuss system reliability, effective management of data and responsible use of online tools
The Methodology supports project work with students and explains chess logic and solutions through multimedia
The Methodology supports project work with students and explains chess logic and solutions through multimedia
The methodology is truly cross-cutting, potentially applicable to biological phenomena
The Methodology main strength is the integration of technical and transversal skills, learning through concrete situations, strong emphasis on metacognition
The most interesting aspects and strengths of the methodology are its practical, learner-centered approach and the strong focus on collaboration. The activities encouraged active participation, the exchange of good practices, and teamwork among teachers from different countries. The methodology combined theory with hands-on tasks, making the learning experience engaging, quite relevant, and often directly applicable to vocational education and training
It's a great idea using a game (Chess) to improve the skills. In that way, the student's skills grow up meanwhile they play.
This methodology offers a fairly realistic and generally understood example for understanding how a program can be structured and how it can objectify every aspect of everyday reality. It's also interesting for students to be able to appreciate the difference between randomness in a computer's choice of moves, as an initial example of software development, and the ability to choose, which is an introduction to the world of Artificial Intelligence.
The most interesting aspect of the methodology is its interdisciplinary approach, using chess as an engaging context to teach AI, computational thinking, and problem-solving skills. Its main strengths are the emphasis on active learning, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and reflection, which help learners develop both technical competencies and transferable soft skills.
The most interesting part is that the Methodology shows programming as a problem that students can solve through logical reasoning: breaking it into smaller parts, trying possible solutions, and thinking about the consequences. Chess works well for this because it gives students something concrete to start from: a board, pieces, rules, limits, and choices. In this way, concepts like conditions, functions, loops, and algorithms become easier to understand. I also think this helps make the transition toward AI feel more natural, instead of making it seem immediately too mathematical or abstract.
Strong points are the interactive activities and the focus on communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills.
This is a very interesting methodology in terms of hard skills (computer skills). It's also applicable to soft skills. It's not easy to apply when teaching Portuguese, but I'm going to use it in terms of cross-curricular skills.
A very interesting approach to combining chess, programming, and AI.
I particularly liked the practical approach and the use of chess to explain coding and AI concepts
I like the practical activities because can help students to think logical and solve problems in Chemistry.
ChessAIThon methodology very interesting, especially the practical connection between chess, computational thinking, coding and Artificial Intelligence. The activities encourage students to think logically, analyse different possibilities and develop problem-solving skills. As an ICT teacher, I also appreciate that the methodology provides practical ideas that can be adapted and used in programming lessons, making complex concepts more engaging and accessible to students.
I found the methodology particularly interesting because it connects mathematical reasoning with computational thinking and programming. The chess-based activities encourage students to analyse situations, identify patterns, think logically and develop problem-solving strategies, which are also important skills in mathematics. The practical approach can help students understand how mathematical and logical concepts can be applied in different contexts, including coding and Artificial Intelligence.
I liked very much how the activities develop computational thinking and introduce programming concepts in an accessible way.
The methodology is interesting because it helps students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills that can be useful in social sciences.
The most valuable elements are project-based learning and problem-solving, the development of critical and creative thinking, collaboration, and the use of Artificial Intelligence as an educational tool. I find the practical, interdisciplinary, learner-centred approach particularly useful
I appreciated the chessboard as a data structure; movement logic and understanding control flow and conditional blocks; moves and rules modularity and functions. As Computer Science teachers, we solved many chess-related problems with our classes in the Backtracking programming topic
The most valuable elements are the practical examples and chess-based activities, which can stimulate students logical thinking, problem-solving and creativity. The connections between chess, programming and Artificial Intelligence are also useful, as they make learning more engaging and applicable
This methodology provides students with a rigorous framework for structured thinking. The most valuable elements are real-world modelling, the application of fundamental laws (rules), cause-and-effect analysis, and the decomposition of complex problems
The Methodology has a potential in developing strategic and anticipatory thinking, learning through adaptive and immediate feedback, personalised learning, and gamification of the learning process
The Methodology provides clear and modular structure of the theoretical content, which facilitates the systematisation of knowledge; interactive learning and assessment tools (practical exercises, consolidation quizzes and worksheets); and the integration of digital technologies and multimedia resources to increase student engagement and support autonomous learning
The Methodology provides useful emphasis on critical thinking and creativity
