Comprehensive methodology guiding VET teachers in using Chess and problem based learning approaches with VET students to develop a more aware and practical oriented comprehension of principles of coding and artificial intelligence and reinforce their transversal key competences.
Online platform featuring real-life chess problem based scenarios to engage VET students in proposing and solving challenges facing and training an artificial intelligence based opponent.
Exemplary implementation of a Hackathon, a transnational learning by doing experience through which VET Students, are challenged in both the aspect of solving and evaluating real chess scenarios and that of training an AI to solve chess problems.
Representatives of all the project partners institutions participated in the online meeting during which they checked the Methodology status as from piloting activities and discussed the AI based platform for playing Chess use to be finalised in Dugo Selo (HR) during the second meeting in presence.
The operational methodology is being translated in all languages of the project partners so to be ready for the piloting activities with which VET teachers and trainers will start making use of the output and test its potential application in everyday lessons. The operational methodology to support vocational education and training (VET) teachers in developing transversal skills and artificial intelligence (AI) foundations with their students through chess logic and problem-solving challenges is now available. Chess can now start to act as a “cognitive laboratory” in which structured reasoning, anticipation of consequences, decision-making under constraints and reflection on mistakes arise naturally allowing for an integrated approach to critical thinking, planning, self-regulation and collaboration.
