Each layer encodes a specific piece type, castling rights, or other game-state information as a simple binary (1 or 0). This is how the AI views the board: not as pieces, but as a vast, multi-layered grid of numbers.
• Move Encoding: A complex, text-based move (like "e2e4") is transformed into a single number between 0 and 4096. This conversion maps every legal move to an index, simplifying the model's task from parsing text to predicting a single integer.

Development Environment and Libraries

For a deeper dive into computer science and real-world data science, students will use Google Colab or Kaggle as a full development environment. This project requires them to apply fundamental concepts like loop structures and data extraction while gaining a crucial first approach to key data science libraries:

• NumPy: For high-performance numerical operations on the board arrays.
• Python Chess: To manage game logic.
